Exodus: Five Things You Need to Know

IGN · 5 hours ago

IGN has previewed Exodus, the science-fiction role-playing game from Archetype Entertainment (backed by Wizards of the Coast), ahead of its release on 7 April 2027. Having first been revealed almost three years ago, the game is now nearing completion, and IGN was given hands-on time with a near-final mission to assess how its story, companions and combat systems have developed.

– Story hook: players control Traveler Jun Aslan, a salvager on a dying world ravaged by "The Rot", a technovirus linked to the advanced, ancient Celestials; he must uncover his father Orion's legacy to save his planet
– Special abilities: Jun can interact with Celestial technology, granting upgradeable powers akin to a sci-fi blend of psychic attacks and magic spells
– Companions: eight of eleven planned crew members have been revealed, including an anthropomorphic wolf named Houston (Jun's adopted brother) and a bounty-hunting Awakened octopus called Salt
– Setting detail: the universe features "Awakened" animals granted human-level intelligence, adding new species and perspectives to the crew and wider world
– Comparisons: the game draws clear parallels to Mass Effect, with a Commander Shepard-style hero, an N7-esque ship, and evolving squad-based abilities
