Facebook, Instagram and Messenger down in widespread Meta outage

Facebook, Instagram and Messenger were disrupted for users around the world on the morning of Sunday 19 July 2026, in an outage that lasted roughly two hours. Reports began spiking on DownDetector just before 9am BST. Users trying to reach the desktop version of Facebook were met with the message "Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes." The disruption was not total. Reporting at the time indicated the problems hit users worldwide but never took the platforms down entirely, and the symptoms differed by service: Facebook users mostly reported problems with the desktop site, while Instagram users reported being unable to load their feed or use the app. Meta did not issue a public statement during the outage, and the company publishes no status page for its consumer apps, so the scale of the incident was visible only through user reports. TalkFuse's own checks found Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp responding normally again at 10:52 BST.
