Facebook launches a dedicated Marketplace app for sellers, adds a free verification system

TechCrunch · 2 hours ago

Facebook is launching a standalone Marketplace app, called Seller, aimed at people who regularly list and sell items. The move reflects Marketplace’s importance to Facebook, particularly among younger users, and is intended to make selling more organised while increasing engagement across the platform.

The Seller app lets users manage listings, communicate with buyers and monitor item performance. Facebook is also introducing a free selfie-based verification mark for Dating, Marketplace and Groups, distinct from the paid Meta Verified badge; Marketplace has more than 430 million monthly listings and 1.1 billion active users. Separately, Facebook is testing an optional full-screen video experience in video-heavy international markets before a planned US rollout next year, and says AI features may later help with listing descriptions and group searches.

  • Facebook launches Seller, a dedicated Marketplace app for frequent sellers.
  • Free selfie verification will appear across selected Facebook services.
  • Marketplace remains a major driver of Facebook engagement.
