Two established fairytale musicals, Bliss and Disenchanted!, have used the Edinburgh fringe to seek a larger future in UK theatre. Both challenge traditional princess stories by stressing independence and self-discovery, but the reviewer finds Bliss more convincingly ready to expand beyond its festival setting.

Bliss arrives with an unusually large 17-person cast, an 80-minute running time and strong pop songs, following four sisters confronting control, beauty pressures and fairytale expectations. Its minimal fringe staging leaves scope for a more elaborate production, while Disenchanted!—an off-Broadway show now being positioned for touring after its 2025 UK debut—is judged to feel reduced as an 80-minute princess revue.
