Fall 2 Replaces Its Deadly Tower With a Real-Life Nightmare
Directors Michael and Peter Spierig deliberately avoided repeating the setting of 2022's Fall for their sequel, Fall 2: Deadpoint, choosing not to reuse a tower or similar structure so as not to invite direct comparison with the original film's acclaimed vertigo-thriller premise. Instead, they modelled the new film's setting on China's Huashan Plank Walk, a genuinely terrifying real-world mountain trail, which allowed the characters to move in multiple directions rather than being stuck in one place, giving the filmmakers more varied and dynamic set pieces to work with.
To heighten realism, the brothers built a physical cliffside set in a quarry, only around 40 feet off the ground, and had actors Harriet Slater and Arsema Thomas perform on real planks in genuine sunlight, wind and rain rather than relying purely on a soundstage or visual effects. They also fitted actors with point-of-view camera rigs to mimic the look of amateur climbing footage, and wove in an emotional throughline about Slater's character grappling with her sister's death from the first film. Although Deadpoint stands alone, it also sets up a further sequel, Fall 3, which remains under original director Scott Mann's control with the Spierigs acting as consultants. Fall 2: Deadpoint is now showing in cinemas.
