Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that Fallout 5 is now in pre-production, alongside remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, marking a significant update on the franchise's future. The announcement matters because it gives fans concrete confirmation of long-rumoured projects, even though The Elder Scrolls 6 remains the studio's primary focus, meaning Fallout 5 itself is still a distant prospect.

The studio described Fallout as "one of our biggest priorities today" and said multiple Fallout projects are in active development. It specifically used the term "remasters" rather than "remakes" for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, leaving unclear whether they will receive the same overhaul as The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. This comes alongside confirmation that Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new Fallout title, following reports last week amid Xbox's 2026 "reset" layoffs. Bethesda also said there will be no traditional Fallout Day broadcast this year, but it is planning a live celebration in Washington, D.C. for the franchise's 30th anniversary in 2027.
