The family of 9/11 firefighter Stephen Siller will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks by retracing his final route through New York's Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel towards the World Trade Center. Frank Siller and other relatives will undertake the private walk before joining hundreds of supporters at the FDNY's Ten House, an event that concludes the Tunnel to Towers Foundation's "Steel Across America" tour, which has carried Siller's story and a 21-foot steel beam from the South Tower across the country since May.

Siller had just finished his shift on the morning of 9/11 when he learned a plane had struck the World Trade Center; finding the tunnel closed, he ran through it on foot carrying 60lbs of gear before dying while helping others escape. Inspired by his memory, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has since provided more than 1,700 mortgage-free homes to families of fallen service members and first responders, supported over 20,000 homeless veterans, and run educational programmes on 9/11 heroism nationwide. For the anniversary, it has also launched a "343 Homes Initiative" to honour the 343 New York firefighters who died that day, pledging 343 mortgage-free homes for bereaved or injured service families.
