A mother and daughter in Brazil died from cancer just 10 hours apart, leaving their family devastated. Cibele Marchis, 28, died in hospital in Mogi Guaçu at about 4pm, while her mother, Maria Elisabete Nogueira, 56, died at another hospital around 2am the following day. The timing was particularly distressing because both had reportedly wished not to know if the other died first.

Cibele was diagnosed in 2024 with a rare, aggressive cancer originating in her adrenal gland, while Maria was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about a year later. Cibele underwent surgery and chemotherapy, whereas Maria’s illness progressed rapidly and required morphine; both were buried together in a joint service. Relatives described Cibele and Maria as closely supportive of one another and said they continued trying to live normally despite their illnesses.
