The victim alerted a station worker about the man's actions, but the man witnessed this and retaliated by punching him twice in the face, causing significant injuries that required hospital treatment. The assault occurred at approximately 5.30pm on Wednesday, 19 August, at Britain's busiest railway interchange. British Transport Police have issued an appeal with a photograph of a man they believe may have information about the incident. The assault comes as South Western Railway intensifies its crackdown on fare evasion, which costs the rail industry an estimated £400 million annually, with 6.5 million journeys made without valid tickets and SWR itself losing approximately £40 million per year.
