A farmer has been jailed for 35 years for murdering his lodger and hiding the dismembered body in a concrete-filled barrel for nearly six years. Christopher Wright, 73, killed Richard Dyson, 55, in November 2019 after Dyson allegedly tried to steal one of his guns, before enlisting childhood friend Karl Schwalbe to help dispose of the remains, which went undiscovered until 2025. The case, heard at Sheffield Crown Court, highlights the prolonged anguish suffered by Dyson's family during his long disappearance.

Wright, a former butcher, was convicted of murder along with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, preventing a lawful burial and six firearms offences; Schwalbe, 72, was convicted of perverting the course of justice and given three years. Dyson had been living in his car outside Wright's Hoyland cottage, doing odd jobs for him, and his body was eventually found in a padlocked trailer alongside Wright's ID after phone data led police to a nearby farm. His daughter, Bethany Dainty, described years of anguish searching for her father, calling the concealment "impossible to understand".
