Poppy Reynolds, a 22-year-old civil plant operator and suicide prevention advocate from Bundaberg in Central Queensland, has died on 22 June following a battle with her mental health. Her death came almost four years after her brother Harry took his own life at the same age, and it matters both as a personal tragedy for her family and as a stark illustration of how those working to help others can themselves be struggling.

After Harry's death, Poppy dedicated herself to mental health and suicide prevention, working to help others through their darkest moments. In a eulogy, her mother, Natalie Vizer, said her daughter's "tough resilience just couldn't show up one more time" and spoke of the pain she had masked. Her father, Bruce, told his three surviving children — Jack, Grace and Euleilah — they were "not allowed" to hold another funeral, while Jack said they "really gotta stop meeting here". Less than a fortnight before she died, Poppy had marked Men's Mental Health Awareness Month on TikTok with a tribute to her brother, writing: "I'm so sorry I couldn't help you."
