Christopher Evans, 35, has been arrested in Cincinnati, Ohio, and charged with murder after his 24-day-old daughter, Naomi, died from severe head injuries. The case has drawn particular attention because Evans was previously convicted in 2017 of assaulting his infant son under strikingly similar circumstances, prompting prosecutors to warn that he should never be left near children again.

Naomi was found unresponsive at the family home on 5 September and died in hospital five days later, with detectives citing a skull fracture and brain bleeding caused by significant physical force. Evans faces charges of murder, felonious assault and child endangerment, and is being held on a $2 million (£1.6m) bond. In the earlier case from 2015, his then three-week-old son suffered a brain bleed, retinal haemorrhages and leg fractures after Evans admitted "bouncing" him too hard and throwing him into a changing table; a detective testified the two cases showed "shocking similarities". Following Naomi's death, a GoFundMe fundraiser bearing the name "Chris Evans" was set up seeking donations for funeral costs, though it has not been confirmed whether the organiser is the same person as the accused.
