Fauci set for high-profile hearing after Paul released diaries

The Hill · 3 hours ago

Former US infectious-disease adviser Anthony Fauci is due to give evidence to the Senate Homeland Security Committee after its Republican chair, Rand Paul, released his pandemic-era diary entries. The hearing is expected to revisit the origins of Covid-19 and allegations that officials misled Congress, prolonging a long-running political dispute over Fauci’s role in the US response.

Paul released more than 1,000 pages of entries covering December 2019 to December 2022, which describe Fauci’s meetings, media appearances and dealings with Donald Trump. Paul, who supports the Wuhan laboratory-leak theory, subpoenaed Fauci as part of the committee’s investigation; Fauci has denied concealing the pandemic’s origins or misleading lawmakers.
