FBI accuse Steam user of stealing over $220,000 via malware-infected games like BlockBlasters, Lunara and Dashverse
The FBI has arrested a Florida-based student accused of stealing more than $220,000 in cryptocurrency by distributing malware disguised as free games on Steam. The affected titles – PirateFi, Dashverse, Lampy, Lunara and BlockBlasters – have all since been removed from the platform, and BlockBlasters previously made headlines after streamer RastalandTV lost $32,000 to the malware while raising funds for his own cancer treatment.
Prosecutors say Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins, who allegedly used the online handle "Sibel.eth", marketed the infected games on Discord, LinkedIn and Telegram, infecting around 8,000 PCs over roughly two years. Investigators traced him after interviewing a participant in the scheme, following stolen crypto funds to Uber gift card purchases, and subpoenaing Uber to link the cards to deliveries made to Wilkins; he was arrested on Tuesday 14th July following a search of his home in which his laptop, phone and digital wallet logins were seized. Wilkins has not commented, and it is not stated whether he has legal representation.
