Following a breach of the FBI's jobs portal, the agency's cyber chief has issued a warning to remaining members of the ShinyHunters hacking group. In a video message, Brett Leatherman urged the group's operatives to surrender themselves, noting that recent arrests and seized infrastructure would soon reveal their identities. The FBI assisted Dutch National Police in arresting a 24-year-old believed to be one of the group's leaders.

Investigators uncovered "a large amount of information" on the suspect's laptop, including details of two planned murders abroad. ShinyHunters had infiltrated FBIJobs.gov and claimed to steal sensitive personal data about current, former and prospective FBI employees. The group stated the breach was not financially motivated but rather intended to pressure the FBI into correcting what it described as "false allegations", with a spokesperson characterising such activity as their business model and "a game".
