EA Sports has named Kylian Mbappé as the cover star of EA Sports FC 27’s Ultimate Edition. The choice highlights the Real Madrid and France forward’s prominence following a strong World Cup campaign and renews his association with EA’s football games, having previously appeared on FIFA 23’s cover.
France lost to Spain in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, but Mbappé scored a tournament-leading 10 goals to win the Golden Boot. He is 27 and said the role was an honour; EA was due to reveal further FC 27 details on 27 July, while the Standard Edition cover star had not yet been confirmed when the article was published.
In short
- Kylian Mbappé fronts FC 27’s Ultimate Edition.
- He won the World Cup Golden Boot with 10 goals.
- Further FC 27 details were expected shortly.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Mbappé's outstanding individual performance as the World Cup's leading scorer with 10 goals constitutes a compelling honour regardless of his team's semi-final exit. His status as one of football's most prominent global figures at Real Madrid makes him an ideal embodiment of excellence and prestige for the cover, securing both sporting credibility and commercial appeal.
The case against
Featuring a player from a defeated semi-finalist squad seems misaligned with a World Cup-themed game launch, when Spain's triumphant players would more fittingly represent tournament success. This choice prioritises individual statistics and commercial appeal over the sporting logic of celebrating the actual tournament champions.
Explained simply
EA Sports FC is a series of football video games made by EA Sports. It continued after EA ended its long-running partnership with FIFA, the sport’s governing body, and renamed its games from FIFA to FC.
Kylian Mbappé is a forward who plays for Real Madrid and France. He has featured on an EA football game cover before, for FIFA 23, and his goals at the 2026 World Cup have kept him among the sport’s most prominent players.
The Ultimate Edition is a premium version of the game, separate from the Standard Edition. Cover choices help EA promote each release, while the different editions give players options at different prices.
