A technician who has disassembled and repaired more than 1,000 Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers has shared his findings after 15 months of hands-on work, offering a longer-term view than typical launch reviews. Given the notorious "Joy-Con drift" problem that plagued the original Switch's controllers and spawned an entire aftermarket repair industry, his observations matter because they suggest Nintendo may have made genuine hardware improvements rather than simply repeating past mistakes, though it remains too early to draw firm long-term conclusions.

Gal Silver of GameTraderZero, writing for Nintendo Life, estimates that the stock analogue sticks in the Switch 2 Joy-Con are roughly 50% more durable on average than their predecessors, based on his informal observations across launch units, later production runs and customer returns. Notably, he says he has not encountered a single analogue stick with drift straight out of the box, though he cautions this isn't a controlled scientific measurement and doesn't rule out future drift, since all mechanical stick components, including the internal tactile switches, have a finite lifespan.
