Female-Led Producer Candid Broads Is Proud to Stand for New Voices, Impact and Representation

The Hollywood Reporter · 3 hours ago

Candid Broads Productions, a female-led London production company founded in 2020 by CEO Oriane Pick and producer Anaïs Ferrato, is expanding from short films into feature-length work and eyeing a move into series, while continuing to champion emerging filmmakers. The company positions itself around amplifying underrepresented voices and diverse female representation both on and off screen, a mission its founders say they stand behind unapologetically even amid political backlash against diversity and inclusion initiatives, particularly in the United States.

The company's recent slate includes three shorts from three female directors: Swim Sistas, a documentary about Black women and water narrated by Naomie Harris; The Long Away Game, about a female Afghan refugee footballer settling in Yorkshire; and the comedy The Contraception Fair, starring Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́, Kathy Kiera Clarke and Amber Grappy. Pick and Ferrato explained the deliberately blunt company name and said their focus, while female-centric, is not exclusively about women's stories, citing the male-led short Punching Bag as an example of their broader search for distinctive, fresh voices.
