FIFA has accused UEFA of waging a "misinformation campaign" and attempting to influence the world football governing body's upcoming presidential election through legal filings related to an abandoned commercial investment proposal. The dispute centres on a plan to transfer World Cup commercial rights into a subsidiary called Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE), which Infantino developed but was ultimately abandoned in July following opposition from regional confederations including UEFA. FIFA argues that UEFA's legal filings, timed before Infantino's March re-election bid, contain "numerous false or misleading statements" and constitute an improper attempt to influence the election.

UEFA had asked a US court to obtain testimony and documents for a planned criminal complaint against FIFA president Gianni Infantino in Switzerland regarding the FFE proposal. UEFA alleged the proposal was developed secretly by Infantino and a small group of advisers, bypassing normal governance processes, and that investors would have paid $4.2bn (£3.2bn) for a stake valuing the business at approximately $20bn—a figure UEFA claims significantly undervalued FIFA's commercial rights and was not subjected to independent valuation. FIFA disputes this, arguing that the $20bn represented equity value only, whilst the business's total enterprise value exceeded $30bn, more than twice the equity value. The dispute reflects broader governance concerns at FIFA, with Infantino recently proposing an independent review of the governing body's decision-making processes.
