Film Financiers & Producers Flock To Inaugural African Film Investor Roundtable In Cape Town

The inaugural African Film Investor Roundtable brought financiers, producers and industry experts to Cape Town from 21 to 23 July, signalling growing confidence in African cinema as an investment opportunity. Organisers said the meeting aimed to connect rising African funding with the continent’s expanding creative talent and encourage collaboration across film financing.

The event was led by Big World Cinema’s Steven Markovitz and HEVA Fund managing partner Wakiuru Njuguna. HEVA has mobilised more than $40 million and backed over 500 East African creative businesses, while MBO Capital has invested over $9 million in more than 42 African film and television productions; attendees also included Afreximbank-linked CANEX Creations, major foundations, South African public bodies and international film-finance specialists.
