Final Fantasy 14 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on 4th August, following its surprise announcement earlier this year, and Square Enix used the Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin to reveal a five-minute teaser trailer for the game's next chapter. The Switch 2 version matters because it brings a major MMORPG to Nintendo's hybrid console for the first time in this generation, complete with the series' well-regarded free trial to lure in new players, though it requires its own separate subscription.

The Berlin event unveiled the Godless Realms Saga story arc and a new tank class called the Bastion, which wields twin greatshields known as skyltborg. Players will need 117.2GB of storage at launch according to the US eShop, making it likely one of Switch 2's largest games, though comparable to FF7 Remake and Rebirth's roughly 90GB footprint given the sheer scale of an MMO. The Switch 2 subscription runs separately from other platform versions even under the same account, doesn't require Nintendo Switch Online, and comes with a 50 percent discount for those already subscribed elsewhere; other reveals included an Evangelion crossover, a new data centre system, and an FF7 Remake trilogy collaboration.
