Final Fantasy 14 Evercold changes housing for the better, Yoshi-P says, and World of Warcraft’s “amazing” take on the MMO staple has “been a good source of research”
Final Fantasy 14 will undergo significant improvements to its housing system in the post-Evercold patch cycle, according to producer Naoki Yoshida during remarks at the Berlin Fan Fest. The overhaul represents a major revisit to one of the game's established systems.
Yoshida acknowledged that World of Warcraft's approach to housing has served as valuable research material for the FF14 team. He noted that when Blizzard developed their own housing system, they examined Final Fantasy 14's design and incorporated elements they wanted to enhance, which Yoshida characterised as an honour for Square Enix. The exchange reflects mutual professional respect between the two competing MMO studios, with Yoshida emphasising the development teams' admiration for one another's work.
