Final Fantasy 14 fans break down theory on Evercold’s second new job

Polygon · 3 hours ago

Ahead of Final Fantasy 14's Evercold expansion, Square Enix used its Berlin Fan Fest to reveal the first of two new jobs, Bastion, while leaving the second job for an official announcement at Tokyo Fan Fest in October. In the meantime, the game's community has pieced together clues from the event and marketing material to theorise that the second job will be a bird-handling class dubbed "Falconer," generating widespread discussion among fans eager to fill in the gap before Square Enix confirms it.

The theory rests on several details: Square Enix has confirmed the job will be an original concept and a physical ranged DPS role, ruling out classes seen in earlier Final Fantasy titles. At the Berlin panel, composer Masayoshi Soken played two sound effects for the job, one featuring a clicking noise fans liken to a crossbow being cocked, and another combining a bird screech with slashing sounds. The latest Evercold trailer also shows a pink-haired Miqo'te character wearing thick leather gloves and being pestered by an armoured bird, fuelling speculation that the job would let players command a bird in combat, similar to the existing Summoner job. Square Enix is expected to confirm the job officially at Tokyo Fan Fest, running 31 October to 1 November at Makuhari Messe.
