Final Fantasy 14 is great and all, but Yoshi-P would “tackle completely new game designs and values” if he were to make another MMO

Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has said that, if he made another massively multiplayer online game, he would not simply repeat the approach used for Square Enix’s long-running hit. Instead, he would seek entirely new design ideas and values, suggesting that any future MMO project would need to respond to changes in players’ expectations and the wider games market.

Yoshida’s comments do not confirm that a new MMO is in development. Final Fantasy 14 remains Square Enix’s major MMO success following its 2013 relaunch, but Yoshida indicated that recreating its formula would be inappropriate for a new project, even though he remains proud of what the team has achieved.

  • Yoshi-P would not simply recreate Final Fantasy 14.
  • A future MMO would pursue new design values.
  • No new MMO has been announced.
