Final Fantasy 14 Will Be The Biggest Game on Nintendo Switch 2 by Install Size, and Take Up Almost Half of the Console’s Entire Memory
Final Fantasy 14 will become the largest game on the Nintendo Switch 2 by install size when it launches on 4 August, taking up nearly half the console's 256GB of storage. The scale of the download highlights the trade-offs Switch 2 owners face with a fixed-memory console, as major third-party titles increasingly demand large chunks of the system's limited space, likely pushing many players towards buying additional SD cards.
The Square Enix MMO will require 117.2GB of storage, according to an eShop listing, roughly double its footprint on PlayStation 5 (which uses file compression) but similar to its size on PC. That total covers all five existing expansions—Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker and Dawntrail—though a sixth, Evercold, is due from January and will add further bulk. It will overtake Square Enix's own Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (91.8GB) as the biggest single Switch 2 game, though not the Kingdom Hearts Collection bundle (131GB). Director Naoki Yoshida confirmed the launch date at Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin, adding that the game will be free to play for its first month while servers are stabilised, after which a subscription will be required.
