Final Fantasy 7 Director Kept ‘Open World Fatigue’ in Mind as New Remake Chapter Promises ‘Bigger’ World Than Rebirth
Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi said Square Enix has considered concerns about “open world fatigue” while designing the final chapter of the remake trilogy. Although Revelation’s world will be larger than Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s, the team aims to give players enough direction to explore without becoming overwhelmed or losing the sense of freedom.
Hamaguchi said Rebirth’s approach of clearly showing available content and its difficulty has informed Revelation’s design. He cited navigating after jumping from the Highwind airship as an example of guidance that still expects players to use their memory; Revelation is expected to arrive in spring 2027 on PC, Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
