Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis shutting down means its Japan only, prequel phone game will remain unplayable
Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis, the more faithful, gacha-driven remake of the original game, is ending its service, meaning the title will become completely inaccessible once servers close. The decision fits a wider pattern of Square Enix winding down its mobile output, but it carries particular weight because Ever Crisis was set to include a remake of Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7 — a prequel that has never been officially available in English and currently cannot even be emulated in full.
Before Crisis, part of the wider Compilation of Final Fantasy 7, was a prequel set six years before the original game, focusing on the Turks and directed by Final Fantasy 15's Hajime Tabata. Its first chapter launched within Ever Crisis on the same day as the shutdown announcement, with two further chapters due in August and September, though it remains unclear whether the whole game will be adapted. Service is scheduled to end on 6th October, and the author hopes Square Enix might preserve the content by spinning Ever Crisis off into a standalone release.
