Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final instalment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, will get a physical release, but buyers on every platform will need an internet connection to download additional game data before they can play. This marks a departure from Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, which were fully playable straight from their discs. It remains unclear whether the physical copy will contain part of the game or simply act as a licence unlock requiring a full download.

On Nintendo Switch 2, the game card will function purely as a key, with the entire game needing to be downloaded once inserted; the Switch 2 version alone is reportedly around 130GB, more than half the console's internal storage. File sizes for the PlayStation and Xbox versions have not yet been confirmed. The announcement came alongside confirmation from director Naoki Hamaguchi, via Sony's State of Play livestream, that the game will launch simultaneously worldwide on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 8th April 2027 — the first title in the series to launch on all formats at once, and on a single disc rather than two.
