Final Fantasy Resonance Shows Off 11-Minute Shiva Battle and Squall Summon on PS5

Push Square · 2 hours ago

Square Enix has released a 16-minute gameplay video for Final Fantasy Resonance on PS5, centred on an uninterrupted boss battle against Shiva. The footage offers a closer look at the forthcoming turn-based RPG’s combat and character-building systems, rather than the wider story or exploration, and suggests the game is drawing heavily on Final Fantasy series nostalgia.

The Shiva encounter lasts just over 11 minutes and sees the party attempting to gain the summon’s support. Characters can equip spirits of past Final Fantasy heroes, gaining their active skills and passive bonuses while levelling those spirits for further customisation; the video highlights Final Fantasy VIII’s Squall, who can be summoned later for a powerful attack preceded by a CGI sequence. Resonance is built from the foundations of the former mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

  • New footage focuses on an 11-minute Shiva boss battle.
  • Squall appears as an equipable spirit and summon.
  • Hero spirits add levelling and customisation options.
