On the pitch, Fiorentina dominated early exchanges through new signings including Franco Mastantuono and Álex Jiménez, but a 25th-minute Frosinone counterattack, finished by Antonio Raimondo, gave the visitors the lead despite Fiorentina hitting the post twice through Arthur Atta's side and Víctor Valdepeñas.
