Flight from Tel Aviv makes emergency landing in Bulgaria ‘after bomb threat’
An Austrian Airlines flight from Tel Aviv to Vienna made an emergency landing in Sofia after the crew received a reported bomb threat. The aircraft landed safely and everyone on board was evacuated; Bulgarian authorities have begun an investigation and are searching the plane.
Flight OS83 carried 51 passengers and six crew members. Tel Aviv is Israel’s main international airport, while Vienna is Austria’s capital and a major European travel hub. Flights between them connect Israel with Austria and onward destinations.
Austrian Airlines is Austria’s national airline, and Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria. When a crew reports a possible security threat, authorities can divert a flight and escort it to an airport where emergency services can respond and inspect the aircraft.
The incident matters because it involves passenger safety and coordination between aviation and security authorities across borders. Investigators must establish what prompted the threat and whether it was credible.
