Florida's Attorney General has accused a teacher at Pine View School in Sarasota County of harassing an eighth-grade student by repeatedly raising political topics in class despite the student's parents forbidding his participation, and then labelling him a "misogynist" and spreading this characterisation throughout the school. James Uthmeier argues that if the allegations are substantiated, the teacher's actions violate Florida law, school policy and basic ethical principles for educators, and has called for her dismissal and revocation of her teaching certificate.

According to the Attorney General's letter, history teacher Liz Ballard continued to engage the student in political discussions, positioning him as the "conservative perspective in the classroom" whilst ignoring parental instructions to the contrary. Ballard allegedly also questioned the suitability of the student's father's influence. The letter notes that multiple parents have previously initiated HR investigations involving the teacher. Sarasota County Schools' Superintendent Terry Connor has stated that the district takes the concerns seriously and will examine the facts fairly, with a response deadline set for 1 October.
