Composer Mick Gordon performed music from the 2016 reboot of Doom live at The Game Awards, bringing the game’s aggressive industrial-metal soundtrack to a concert-stage setting. The performance mattered because the soundtrack had become a defining and widely praised part of Doom’s successful return.
Gordon played “Rip & Tear” with drummer Matt Halpern of Periphery and musician Sonic Mayhem. Doom won Best Music/Sound Design at the awards, ahead of Battlefield 1, Rez Infinite, Inside and Thumper, and also received Best Action Game.
