Forget ‘Street Fighter,’ This Underrated Video Game Reboot Is a Streaming Sensation

The 2018 film *Tomb Raider*, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, has entered Netflix’s Top 10 films, drawing renewed attention as another video game adaptation gains a streaming audience. The article presents it as an underrated reboot that follows Lara’s growth into the treasure hunter familiar to fans.

Inspired by the 2013 game reboot, the story sends Lara to find her missing father and confront Mathias Vogel, played by Walton Goggins. The film features action set pieces directed by Roar Uthaug, while Vikander’s performance also gives Lara emotional depth. A planned sequel fell through after pandemic disruption and MGM’s loss of the franchise rights in 2022; a new Prime Video series is planned, with Sophie Turner as Lara.
