Forgotten Pokémon Card Collection Goes for $2 Million
A retired former decorator from Woking has sold a Pokémon card collection he had stored in his attic for £1.56 million, around $2 million. The sale shows how valuable rare, well-preserved cards have become as interest in Pokémon collecting continues to grow.
He began buying sets in the late 1990s, partly as a possible investment, and kept them separate from his son’s cards. One set bought for £300 later sold for £75,000, while the auction’s top lot, a complete Legendary Collection Master Set, fetched £100,000. Ewbank’s Auctions said the collection was extensive, complete and in mint condition, and described the sale as the most valuable trading card auction ever held in the UK.
