Former Disney star Christy Carlson Romano thought she was ‘going to die’ after freak shooting accident
Christy Carlson Romano says she feared she would die after being struck by birdshot during a clay pigeon shooting outing in Texas in 2025. The accident has left a pellet lodged close to her eye, and she says it could cause blindness if it moves.
Romano was out with her husband, Brendan Rooney, for his birthday when another person in their party fired too close to her. Doctors said the pellet narrowly missed her eyeball, optic nerve and eye muscles by about a millimetre; removing it was considered too risky, so it remains in place. She has described her recovery as miraculous and recounted the experience in her memoir, “Once Upon a Trainwreck”.
In short
- Romano was struck by birdshot during a Texas outing in 2025.
- A pellet remains lodged about a millimetre from critical structures near her eye.
- Doctors judged removal too risky, leaving her vision at risk if it moves.
