A former local television news anchor has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder after admitting she stabbed her 80-year-old mother to death at their home in Wichita, Kansas. Angelynn Mock, 48, who previously worked as a Fox affiliate anchor in St Louis and Oklahoma City, called 911 herself after the killing, telling the dispatcher that her mother had "tried to kill her" and she had stabbed her in return. Mock's mother, Anita Avers, was found unresponsive in bed on 31 October 2025, wearing only underwear and a bra, having suffered multiple stab wounds to her face and torso; four kitchen knives and a cheese grater, all bloodied, were found laid out on a pillow beside her. Mock told police she had gone to discuss a potential job interview with her mother, who became jealous and confronted her while sharpening knives, though officers found her outside the house holding a bloodied towel to her hands. Anita's husband, Barry Avers, told investigators that Mock had a history of mental illness, having previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder before this was revised to schizoaffective disorder, and that she had moved in with the couple four to five years earlier.
