Former Victorian premier Jacinta Allan has formally ended her political career, following her resignation as premier last month. Her departure removes a long-serving Labor figure from Victorian Parliament and is likely to prompt a contest for her Bendigo East seat, adding to political uncertainty ahead of the state election.

Allan was elected to Parliament in 1999, aged 25, and became Victoria’s premier in September 2023 after Daniel Andrews resigned. She stepped down as premier on 28 July amid pressure within Labor, with Ben Carroll succeeding her; Allan had initially said she would remain involved to support the government’s re-election campaign.
