Fortnite giving out more V-Bucks through its monthly subscription – but also ditching a big perk
From 5 December, Fortnite Crew will award more V-Bucks, with larger monthly amounts for subscribers who have paid continuously for longer. The price will stay the same, making the change a boost for existing and returning subscribers, although a long-standing perk is also being removed.
The monthly allowance will rise from 800 to 1,000 V-Bucks, then increase to 1,200 after three consecutive months, 1,400 after six months and a maximum of 1,600 after 12 months. Subscribers will also gain 20% more XP; non-subscribers in a Crew member’s team will receive a 10% bonus. Monthly Crew skins will end after December, while remaining Legacy Styles will be unlocked for owners of those cosmetics; access to the Battle Pass, Music Pass, Lego Pass and Rocket Pass Premium continues.
In short
- Crew’s base V-Bucks allowance returns to 1,000 a month.
- Long-term subscribers can earn up to 1,600 V-Bucks monthly.
- Monthly Crew skins are being discontinued after December.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
The higher V-Bucks allowance rewards loyalty and gives subscribers more flexibility to spend on the items they value, while the unchanged price makes the subscription more generous overall. The XP bonuses and continued access to several passes also preserve useful benefits, and ending monthly skins may suit players who prefer choosing their own cosmetics.
The case against
Removing monthly Crew skins takes away a distinct, predictable benefit that helped make the subscription appealing, especially for players who valued those cosmetics more than extra currency. The escalating allowance also ties the best return to long, uninterrupted membership, so newer or returning subscribers may see less value even as the headline benefit rises.
Explained simply
Fortnite is an online game in which players compete, explore and customise their characters. V-Bucks are its in-game currency, used to buy items such as outfits and other cosmetics.
Fortnite Crew is a paid monthly subscription offered by the game’s maker, Epic Games. It bundles V-Bucks with access to several passes, including the Battle Pass, which unlocks rewards as players progress through the game.
Crew has also included a monthly exclusive skin, a character outfit that subscribers could keep. The subscription’s mix of currency, passes and cosmetics matters to players weighing its cost against the items and rewards they want.
