A fourth former South Yorkshire Police officer has been arrested by the National Crime Agency on suspicion of non-recent child exploitation and abuse, as part of an investigation into historical allegations against ex-officers in Rotherham. Ten victims have now come forward, and the case is significant given long-standing concerns about the force's handling of the wider Rotherham grooming gangs scandal, in which police were previously accused of failing to protect victims rather than being directly implicated as abusers.

The NCA took over the inquiry after South Yorkshire Police initially investigated its own former officers. Three other ex-officers have been arrested since December 2024 on suspicion of offences including attempted rape, indecent assault and misconduct in a public office, allegedly committed while on duty as constables between 1995 and 2004; none has been charged. The BBC reported in July 2025 that five women exploited by grooming gangs as children said they were also abused by police officers, including one account of alleged rape from age 12 by an officer in a marked police car. A 2014 report by Prof Alexis Jay found at least 1,400 children were abused in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.
