Fox Ad Revenue Surges In June Quarter On World Cup

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Fox reported a sharp rise in advertising revenue for its fiscal fourth quarter, driven by its broadcast of the FIFA Men's World Cup, as total company revenue climbed 28% to $4.21 billion for the quarter ending in June. The results underline the commercial value of major live sports rights to traditional broadcasters at a time when the industry faces growing competition from streaming, and come as Fox pursues a $22 billion deal to acquire Roku, announced in June, which chief executive Lachlan Murdoch said would "transform the scope and growth profile" of the company.

Advertising sales jumped 78% on the strength of the World Cup coverage, while distribution revenue rose 5%, helped by 7% growth in cable network programming, and the company pointed to continued digital growth led by its free streaming service Tubi. Content and other revenue slipped slightly to $262 million from $269 million due to the timing of sports sub-licensing income, and net income fell to $696 million from $719 million. Quarterly adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation rose 27% to $1.2 billion, with Murdoch also highlighting the launch of the FOX One direct-to-consumer streaming service during the year.
