Framework, the maker of modular laptops, is cutting RAM prices for some buyers of its Laptop 13 Pro and refunding customers who paid more, despite an ongoing industry-wide component shortage that had pushed memory costs up in July. The company said it secured a limited batch of Micron 32GB and 64GB LPCAMM2 memory modules at a lower cost and wanted to pass the savings on, calling it a "rare, positive update" in a market where component prices have generally been rising.

Framework is refunding the price difference to customers whose preorders already shipped at the higher RAM price, and is cutting the cost for pending preorders through Batch 10, with those customers also able to upgrade their RAM configuration at the new lower price. The new prices remain above the original pre-order launch baseline but below the most recent price hike. Any leftover discounted memory, or further stock Framework manages to secure, will go next to remaining Laptop 13 Pro preorder batches (the company is currently taking orders for Batch 20) and then to new preorders, while DIY Edition owners can request a switch to the new pricing via an online form.
