France TV Distribution Unveils Female-Led Actioners in Le Havre Lineup

Variety ·

France TV Distribution has revealed four new TV movies for this year's Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre, running from 7 to 10 September, with the lineup notably featuring two female-led action thrillers alongside a crime drama and a dramedy. The showcase adds to the sales company's existing slate, which includes historical drama "Swapped" and mystery drama "Our Missing Sons", underlining a push towards women-fronted genre content within French television exports.

The two action thrillers are "Alma", starring Ludmilla Makowski as a woman who moonlights as a vigilante hunting a serial rapist through a safety app she built, and "The Recruit", starring Kenza Fortas as a French intelligence trainee tasked with unmasking a mole. Rounding out the slate are "It's Gonna Be OK", a Marseille-set dramedy about overworked social workers starring comedian Mathieu Madénian, and "A Place in the Sun", a crime drama following a former police officer turned town hall secretary investigating a suspicious death in a small southern French village.

Explained simply

French television programmes are sold to broadcasters in other countries through distribution companies, which present new shows to potential buyers. France TV Distribution is one such company, and Unifrance’s annual Rendez-Vous brings international buyers together with French film and television makers in Le Havre.

Television films span genres including drama, comedy and thrillers, and often reflect changing choices about whose stories are told and who leads them. Female-led action stories, for example, place women at the centre of plots involving danger and investigation.

The other programmes in the selection explore social work in Marseille and a suspicious death in a southern French village. Together, the titles give buyers a sample of the range of French television available for international sale.
