‘Free Nelson Mandela’ Maker Rogan Productions Opens South Africa Office & Tweaks Management Set Up

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Rogan Productions, the London-based company behind Channel 4's "Free Nelson Mandela," has opened a new office in South Africa, marking its first permanent international expansion in its 13-year history. The Johannesburg-based unit, Rogan South Africa, will maintain close links with Cape Town, reflecting the founders' longstanding personal ties to the country and building on a string of South Africa-related productions. The move also coincides with a management restructuring at the company.

Founders James and Soleta Rogan will now hold joint co-CEO titles, having previously served as Creative Director and Managing Director respectively, and will also lead the new South African arm while they search for a local senior producer. Rogan's credits include the BAFTA-winning "Grenfell: Uncovered" and "Uprising," as well as "Original Sin: My Son the Killer" for the now-defunct South African streamer Showmax. Separately, Mark Hedgecoe, head of Rogan Scotland in Glasgow, is departing for STV in October, with a replacement being sought.
