French TV Disruptor Jeremy Zag Talks Building ‘Miraculous’ Universe, Plans For A Live-Action Series & Latest On Katy Perry Animated Movie ‘Melody’

Deadline · 3 hours ago

Jeremy Zag, co-creator of the French animated hit "Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir," has revealed plans for a live-action adaptation of the series, alongside progress on Melody, an animated feature made with pop star Katy Perry. The comments came as Zag was named Deadline's 2026 French TV Disruptor at Unifrance's Rendez-Vous market, an honour recognising his success in building animated franchises that have found audiences worldwide.

Speaking to Deadline at the award ceremony in Montivilliers Abbey, Normandy, Zag said his approach centres on building entire "universes" around a brand, spanning television, film, games and merchandise, an ambition he pursued by relocating to Los Angeles and drawing on American superhero storytelling and business practices. He confirmed the live-action Miraculous series now has producers and writers in place, alongside new superhero characters ready to join Ladybug. On Melody, he said Katy Perry is closely involved, voicing a lead role and contributing to the songs and story, with director Gary Trousdale of Beauty and the Beast fame also attached; Zag described the film as a tale about self-belief centred on a young girl who wants to sing.
