Arsenal have confirmed the sale of forward Gabriel Martinelli to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal for £60m, a fee that sets a new record for the Premier League champions, surpassing the £40m they received for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool in 2017. The Brazilian, who joined from Ituano in 2019 and was part of Arsenal's title-winning squad last season, had slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates, making the move unsurprising once it emerged last week.

Martinelli, 25, is believed to have agreed a four-year contract worth around £17m a season, with the deal including a sell-on clause and completing ahead of Saudi Arabia's transfer window closing on Sunday. He becomes the second Brazilian to leave Arsenal this week after Gabriel Jesus's £8.6m switch to Barcelona, while the club also sold Fábio Vieira to Hamburg on deadline day without making any new signings, and picked up roughly £3m from Brook Norton-Cuffy's move to Hull but missed out on around £7m when Folarin Balogun's transfer to Everton fell through.
