Game of Thrones is finally getting the PC game we’ve been waiting for next year
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, a real-time strategy game based on the HBO series, has been delayed from its original 2026 release to early 2027. Developer PlaySide confirmed the news in a Steam blog post, framing the extra time as necessary to meet the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans, and to reach the quality bar it is aiming for. The delay matters because Warner Bros. has struggled to produce a standout Game of Thrones video game despite the franchise's huge popularity, so a well-executed RTS entry could fill a notable gap.
The game was first revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025 but has attracted relatively little attention since. Alongside the delay announcement, PlaySide shared gameplay clips showing factions, hero abilities, heavy cavalry units and large maps, drawing comparisons to the Total War series. It is being developed for Windows PC by PlaySide, also known for Mouse: P.I. For Hire, and arrives before any wider Game of Thrones gaming push reportedly being planned by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
