Game of Thrones Prequel The Mad King Officially Returns in 2027

Polygon ·

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s stage production of *Game of Thrones: The Mad King* will move to London in 2027, after its sold-out Stratford-upon-Avon run ended in September. The return brings the prequel to a wider audience and gives the story of the events leading to Robert’s Rebellion a new stage run.

George R.R. Martin announced the move in September, but the London venue, dates and casting have not been confirmed. Directed by Dominic Cooke and written by Duncan Macmillan, the play centres on the Harrenhal tournament and younger versions of characters including Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon, Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Its romantic plot connects to Jon Snow’s birth, while puppetry depicts the jousting.
