‘Game, set and match’: Australia casts doubt on LIV return amid financial uncertainty
South Australia Premier Peter Malinauskas said the LIV Golf event scheduled for Adelaide next March was unlikely to go ahead, casting doubt on the circuit’s future. His comments followed reports that BC Partners had dropped plans to relaunch LIV, amid player departures and the loss of Saudi financial backing.
Adelaide has hosted four LIV events, with next year’s tournament planned for Kooyonga Golf Club. The club said LIV had not paid the first instalment of its venue fee and that it was seeking clarification. LIV filed for bankruptcy protection in September as part of a restructuring, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is due to end its backing after the 2026 season. More than 115,000 people attended the Adelaide event last February, a national record for a professional golf tournament.
