Seven men have been sentenced to a combined 129 years in prison for a petrol-bomb attack on a home in Stoke-on-Trent. The December 2021 arson was carried out as revenge after a man was stabbed during a violent confrontation, but the intended target was not present; instead, a mother and her teenage daughter were seriously injured.

The mother suffered burns to 45% of her body, a severe inhalation injury and multiple other injuries, while her 13-year-old daughter sustained 12% burns and needed skin grafts. The sentences ranged from 10-and-a-half to 34 years, with evidence showing that petrol cans were bought and filled before the attack and that the pair escaped by jumping from a first-floor window.
